Job Description
A. JOB SUMMARY
To train, mentor, and assess students in the Community Health Assistant (CHA) program, equipping them with the competencies to deliver essential preventive and promotive health services at the household and community level in line with the Kenyan Ministry of Health’s Community Health Strategy.
B. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Deliver competency-based training in community health modules, including health promotion, disease prevention, data collection, and referral systems.
• Train students on conducting household visits, community dialogues, and providing basic health services as per the CHA curriculum.
• Supervise students during practical community fieldwork and attachment placements.
• Develop and use appropriate assessment tools to evaluate student competence in both theory and community practice.
• Guide students in maintaining professional ethics, cultural sensitivity, and effective communication within diverse communities.
• Participate in the review and development of community health training materials and curricula.
• Maintain accurate training records and student progress reports.
C. REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT
• A Diploma in Community Health (Community Health Nursing, Public Health, or equivalent) from a training institution recognized by the Ministry of Health and the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
• A valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) or relevant professional body.
• At least three (3) years of hands-on experience working within the Kenyan Community Health Strategy, preferably as a community health focal person, supervisor, or trainer.
• A TVET Trainers Methodology Certificate (from CDACC or equivalent) is mandatory. Candidates without it must commit to undertaking the training within the first year of employment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the national community health policy, CHA curriculum, and Kenya Essential Package for Health (KEPH).
• Excellent facilitation, mentoring, and report-writing skills.
