Job Description
A. JOB SUMMARY
To train students in Perioperative Theatre Technology, preparing them to assist in surgical operations by managing the operating theatre environment, sterilizing instruments, and providing direct support to surgical teams.
B. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Deliver theoretical and practical instruction in sterile techniques, surgical instrumentation, anesthesia assistance, and patient positioning.
• Supervise students in simulated theatre environments and during clinical attachments.
• Train students on the care, maintenance, and sterilization of surgical equipment.
• Assess student competence in maintaining aseptic conditions and assisting during surgical procedures.
• Guide students in developing professionalism, teamwork, and emergency response skills critical to the operating theatre.
• Ensure all training adheres to the highest standards of patient safety and infection prevention.
C. REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT
1. A Diploma in Perioperative Theatre Technology or equivalent from an institution recognized by the relevant statutory body.
2. A valid practicing license from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) or other appropriate regulatory council.
3. At least three (3) years of hands-on experience working in an operating theatre/surgical department.
4. A TVET Trainers Methodology Certificate (from CDACC or equivalent) is mandatory. Candidates without it must commit to undertaking the training within the first year of employment.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of modern surgical procedures, theatre protocols, and sterilization standards.
