VACANCY: RESEARCH ASSISTANTS
PERIOD: 8-10 DAYS
JOB SUMMARY
BACKGROUND
Our client plans to undertake a baseline study in several ASAL counties, including Isiolo, Kajiado, Turkana, and Wajir. They are seeking applications from highly qualified Research Assistants to support data collection. The Research Assistants will work under the direct supervision of the experts.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Successful applicants will be responsible for the following tasks:
i. Participate and successfully complete training for field data collection.
ii. Understand the activities and objectives of the baseline study.
iii. Locate key informants and administer Key Informant Interviews.
iv. Recruit participants for Focus Group Discussions.
v. Facilitate focus group discussions with stakeholders such as parents, teachers, and civil society.
vi. Accurately capture and record data and information from KIIs and FGDs on physical papers and online data entry forms.
vii. Liaise with the experts where technical support is required and make daily progress reports.
viii. Follow clear standards set and comply with all the requirements for a successful interview.
ix. Ensure adherence to the Code of Conduct for data collection.
x. Anticipate unusual situations and make quick and responsible decisions.
xi. Handle respondent queries and give appropriate responses and/or references.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The assignment required research assistants with the following skills and experience:
• Possess at least a diploma or a bachelor’s degree.
• Previous experience undertaking KIIs, FGDs, and Learner Assessments preferred.
• Understanding of the education sector is an added advantage.
• Knowledge of mobile data collection is an added advantage.
• Proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be a resident of the counties covered by the study, i.e., Kajiado, Isiolo, Turkana, and Wajir, and understand the local schools’ geography well. People living within Kakuma are encouraged to apply.
• Possess a smartphone with at least Android version 11.0.
• Those with experience supervising data collection/facilitating FGDs will be considered for a coordinator/facilitator role.
