About the Role:
Harrisburg Liquor is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Business Development Manager to oversee the importation and distribution of assorted liquor in Kenya. This is a leadership role responsible for end-to-end operations, including market research, supplier negotiations, licensing, logistics, warehouse management, staff recruitment, sales strategy, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business development, supply chain management, and team leadership within the liquor or FMCG industry.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Market Research & Business Strategy
• Conduct in-depth market analysis to understand consumer trends, competitor landscape, and emerging opportunities.
• Define target market segments and develop tailored strategies for brand positioning and penetration.
• Formulate and implement a strategic business plan, including revenue goals, operational budgets, and growth initiatives.
2. Supplier Sourcing & Negotiation
• Identify and assess international liquor suppliers based on quality, pricing, and compliance standards.
• Negotiate favorable procurement terms, including volume discounts, payment structures, and delivery schedules.
• Establish long-term supplier relationships to ensure consistent product availability.
3. Importation & Regulatory Compliance
• Obtain and maintain all necessary licenses and permits from regulatory authorities (KRA, KEBS, etc.).
• Oversee the customs clearance process, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with local import regulations.
• Manage logistics for smooth transportation from the supplier to the distribution warehouse.
4. Warehouse & Inventory Management
• Supervise the receiving, storage, and inventory management of liquor products.
• Implement inventory control measures to optimize stock levels and minimize losses.
• Ensure strict adherence to quality control protocols and regulatory standards.
5. Staff Recruitment, Training & Development
• Define staffing needs and oversee the hiring of a competent sales and operational team.
• Develop and execute comprehensive onboarding and training programs for new hires.
• Foster a high-performance culture through continuous learning and development initiatives.
6. Distribution & Logistics Management
• Develop a cost-effective distribution strategy for wholesale, retail, and direct-to-consumer channels.
• Identify and establish partnerships with distributors, retailers, and key market players.
• Optimize delivery routes and logistics to ensure timely and efficient order fulfillment.
7. Sales, Marketing & Customer Engagement
• Drive sales growth through strategic sales initiatives and key account management.
• Oversee the development and execution of marketing campaigns, including digital, traditional, and experiential marketing.
• Enhance customer engagement through loyalty programs, product tastings, and social media interactions.
8. Performance Monitoring & Financial Management
• Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to sales, distribution efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
• Prepare financial reports, analyze sales performance, and ensure budget adherence.
• Continuously evaluate market trends and business performance to optimize strategies.
9. Compliance & Continuous Improvement
• Conduct regular internal audits to ensure compliance with legal and industry standards.
• Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
• Stay updated on regulatory changes and adjust business operations accordingly.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Marketing, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 7+ years of experience in a senior management role within the liquor, FMCG, or distribution sector.
• Proven experience in business strategy, supplier negotiations, and operational management.
• Strong understanding of Kenyan import regulations and compliance requirements.
• Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to analyze market data, identify opportunities, and drive business growth.
• Excellent communication skills with a strong customer and stakeholder engagement ability.
